IOGT Love Token
Alcohol was a vital part of colonial life, both as a beverage and medicine. The Industrial Revolution brought on changes to social attitudes about drinking - after all, new machinery borne of the era mandated sober laborers to operate heavy machinery. The Temperance Movement was an organized effort to limit and outlaw the production and consumption of alcoholics beverages, emanating from a concern in the early 19th century that too many Americans were living immoral lives. IGOT (international organization of good Templar’s) was one of this movement’s societies, founded in 1851 and still in existence to this day. Someone thought enough of it it to commission this absolutely incredible engraving. And here I was just thinking I found a super cool love token!
This beautiful love token is set in a 14k yellow gold and diamond bezel and openable bale.
