A heron standing watch among the cattails, worked in raised relief on a silver coin — the bird and its reeds lifted from the surface by hand, a favorite motif of the Victorian Aesthetic Movement. To the Victorians the heron meant patience and quiet vigilance: the bird that stands perfectly still in the reeds, trusting that what it waits for will come. A fitting emblem for a token meant to outlast its giver. Set in gold with a halo of bezel-set diamonds, hung from a diamond pavé bail.
